The Wesley of Wilmington organization – a campus ministry of the United Methodist church – provides a place of community and faith in the midst of college life. Wilmington can be a big place where you can be around people but not have people in your circle. At WOW, we are all on a journey. We may have moved to Wilmington to come to school, or we may have lived in this neck of the woods our whole lives. We may be curious about God or we may be a follower of Jesus. Everyone is welcome!
What You Can Expect
At a WOW event, you can expect to see your friends, meet new people, freely talk about life, and hear more about how God works in our lives.
Who Can Participate In WOW?
Everyone who is college-aged in Wilmington is invited to be a part of our community. Students at UNC-Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College are part of our group. However, if you are college-age and not currently enrolled in school you are welcome to join us too! Wesley of Wilmington strives to be a pluralistic community – academically, theologically, and by age and interest. We are also a community of persons committed to caring, sharing, serving, learning, and growing with each other regardless of ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital or economic status, handicapping condition, or other human differences. Our common bond is God’s love shown through Jesus Christ and that’s what matters.
What Do We Do?
We have dinner together and read the Bible and talk about faith. As our organization grows, we want to support campus activities and speakers and provide a method for students to serve the greater community of Wilmington together. We want to provide a place where we can question, explore and mature in our faith as we work to live our faith in the world. We plan to have small group discussions and larger worship services as our group grows.
WOW: Wesley of Wilmington thinks gathering around a table is fun and important! We meet at 7:30PM every Monday evening during the academic year at Wesley Memorial UMC on 1401 S. College Rd. Park near the activity building and look for the orange welcome flags. We meet in room 307.
If you need a ride, let us know and we can carpool to Wesley Memorial UMC. We eat a home cooked meal every week. It might be nachos or homemade soup and salad or DIY pizza! Check our calendar or FB page to see what’s for dinner! For dessert, we ALWAYS have fresh baked cookies!
We are a new campus ministry, so we are still creating new places to serve God and other people. What else could we do? Where have you seen a need in Wilmington that we are called to meet?
